176 years ago fifty-nine elegates to the Convention of 1836 at Washington-on-the Brazos sign the Texas Declaration of Independence without debate. Authored primarily by George Childress, it charges that the Mexican government has become a military dictatorship, ceasing to protect the lives, liberty and property of her people, and declares Texas to be an independent republic.
